POSITION TITLE: E-3 Mission Simulator Maintenance Technician
POSITION SUMMARY: Skilled computer and electronics technician trusted to provide E-3 aircraft mission crews and software developers with a professionally maintained and continuously reliable aircrew training device. Technician is responsible for scheduled and unscheduled on/off-equipment maintenance for three E-3 Mission Simulators (MSIMs), the Facility for Interoperability Testing (FIT), and associated communication processing and display subsystems. Technician shall load and configure system software prior to scheduled training sessions and respond immediately to resolve system hardware and software discrepancies impacting user training. Technician provides knowledgeable interpretation of diagnostic operational and self-test programs in assessment of system performance. Individual must utilize Air Force Technical Order (T.O.) System and maintain strict adherence to standards and instructions. A SECRET security clearance is required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Loads system software in support of mission crew training, evaluation, and software testing.
- Initializes and configures Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS).
- Performs Troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on the MSIMs, FIT, JTIDS, Simulator Communication Switch, and the External Electronic Support Measure Simulator (EES) terminals.
- Performs on-equipment removal and installation of system components.
- Uses Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS) to track production and manage operational equipment.
- Utilizes the Air Force supply system to order and track required parts.
- Strictly follows tool accountability guidance.
- Initializes, configures, and troubleshoots Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS), Tactical Data Information Link 11 (TADIL-A), Simulator Communications Switching System (SCSS), Audio Distribution System (ADS), Central Switching Device (CSD), and External Electronic Support Measures Simulator (EES) equipment.
- Performs removal and installation of MSIM and FIT communication-computer equipment.
- Uses Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS) to track production and manage operational equipment.
- Operates COMSEC equipment per Air Force Communication Security Operations Manuals and Security Instructions.
- Uses and maintains Technical Order (TO) library for all MSIM and FIT equipment.
- Tracks and accounts for tools during MSIM maintenance actions.
- Configures Dual Lab equipment.
- Augments/supports other project teams as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Shift Leader.
- Compliant with all applicable AFOSH and OSHA safety standards.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years of related experience in computer and switching systems.
- AWACS computer/simulator maintenance experience or AWACS Airborne Computer and Displays Maintenance Technician (CDMT) experience is highly desirable.
- Radio/communication systems (JTIDS and TADIL-A) experience also desired; either AWACS Comm./Nav Mission Systems Technician or Airborne Communications Technician (CT)/Communication Systems Operator (CSO).
- Knowledge of Air Force Supply systems.
- Experience with IMDS.
- Knowledge of Air Force Technical Order System.
- Knowledge of COMSEC handling, loading, and storage.
SKILLS:
- Fundamentals and theory of electronics and basic troubleshooting procedures.
- Experience in the usage of various testing equipment (e.g. Ohm-/Am-/Multimeters).
- Demonstrated ability to use technical data wiring diagrams and schematic drawings.
